In the key B major, all the scales are derived from the diatonic major scale known and called by many the major scale. The B major scale has 7 notes, playing the scale root to octave which is the B note an octave tone higher makes it 8 notes. Alot of people say there are 8 notes in the major diatonic scale because they include the octave note.
The 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th & 6th notes of the B major scale create the major pentatonic scale. The major pentatonic scale only has 5 notes before you reach the octave note B.
You'll notice in the blues scale the 3rd note is flattened, they added in the flattened 5th note & the 7th note. Playing these notes against a 1 - 4 - 5 rhythm pattern, you'll really notice how well this scale blends and complements the rhythm.
The diminished scale is a 8 note scale before you reach the octave note.
