To begin with, on the guitar each string is a note in music. When played without pressing down the string on any of the guitar frets, is called an open string note.Also each guitar fret is a note when pressing down the string on a guitar fret. The note being played depends upon which string and which fret the string is being pressed down on.
A guitar chord is 3 or more notes being played at the same time.
You will find that some of the basic guitar chords that are presented on the chord charts are a combination of open strings and strings that are being pressed down on certain frets of the guitar. This is because some of the open strings are notes that are within that particular chord.
Below is an example of guitar chords. Chart No. #1 is an example of a G Major guitar chord played with open string notes,which are also notes that make up the chord. Chart No. #2 is an example of a F Major guitar chord which don't have any open string notes that make up the chord.
